Built in a record fast time of just six months and with an option to extend, the terminal will be the hub for 30 Arla dairy production locations as it moves up to full working capacity by October 2016. It will be the company’s most important distribution centre, serving the northern and eastern regions of Germany.
Taking logistics for Arla to the next level
DSV built and runs the complex on behalf of Arla. The building has three different temperature zones and can accommodate very high throughput volumes at peak times. There are 7,500 square metres of refrigerated warehouse space kept between 2 and 6 degrees Celsius and 2,500 square metres at ambient temperature (up to 25 degrees Celsius). There is even space for post-ripening of cheese.
DSV’s 20 staff currently handles 400 pallets a day and once the facility is fully operational there will be 40 people handling an expected 1200 pallets– equivalent to 1.5 million items entering and exiting every day.
Each of the 20 truck docks as well as 20 other parking spaces on the site is equipped with electrical power. This reduces CO2 emissions and removes the need for trucks to keep their engines running when parked in order to maintain correct temperatures.
