Move forward as an Assistant Freight Forwarder at DSV in Dordrecht

Shipments are transported daily, with DSV's trailers, to and from Belgium and France. As assistant freight forwarder, you are the first contact with the customer and ensure that the details are right from the start. Your colleagues from the Belgium / France department will be happy to teach you 'on-the-job' everything about road transport to help you grow in knowledge.

You get it done

Every day you are active with the work around the road transports to and from Belgium. You have contact with the customer about details of the shipment and make sure your colleague from planning has the right info to pick up and deliver this shipment. Together with your 10 colleagues from the France/Belgium department you make sure your customer is satisfied. You work on it.

How you do this? After an e-mail from the customer (5 pallets from Groningen to Brussels), you process the data in the system and you are in close contact with your colleagues from planning. You keep the customer informed. In the meantime, you receive another e-mail from the customer, asking if DSV would like to transport a shipment of 8 pallets from Assen to Leuven. You can combine both shipments, which you short-circuit with your colleagues in planning. Your colleagues in Belgium send you a message. About a shipment of 10 pallets from Belgium to Rotterdam. You coordinate this internally. And then inform the customer with an update about a delayed shipment.  You get this done by:

  • taking and processing bookings in the DSV system;
  • keeping in constant telephone and email contact with customers and colleagues (in the Netherlands and Belgium);
  • ensuring that all shipment details are put into the system without error.

The team in which you are active stands out because of doers and thinkers. One of the other 10 colleagues from the Belgium/France department, led by your supervisors Sander and Rob, will be your permanent buddy who will teach you everything. An average working day consists of a lot of laughter and hard work in the Belgium/France department. Because humor and hard work go hand in hand.

We are DSV, we are growing

DSV is a global provider of transport and logistics services. With offices in more than 80 countries and a growing network of partners, there is no place in the world we cannot reach via transport by air, sea, rail, courier or road or where we can offer storage in warehouses.

Growing in knowledge and experience is possible. I am an example of it myself; started as an intern, grew through to planner and now I work as leader of the nicest team in Dordrecht,

says Rob Westdijk, Senior Teamlead France/ Belgium.
