Role profile


To support DSV Solutions in new business pursuits as well as existing operations from both a data driven and practical approach, creating processes, designing layouts, calculating headcount and space requirements whilst applying relevant technologies into the thought process.

Primary purpose of the role


DSV Solutions has ambitious growth targets in terms of footprint, revenue and EBITA.  The Solution Design Engineer will play a key role in increasing the revenue and EBITA of the country by optimising solutions for new and existing business.   As part of the Commercial Team, the SDE will work on proposals and operational requests ensuring data is understood to optimise processes and space utilization, whilst considering commercial impacts. 





Key accountability areas



New Business Development: Understand customer request document and data to feedback basic requirements into DSV to make initial decisions


New Business Development: Process data to calculate space requirements, considering site availability, and storage options against customer data profile


New Business Development: Process data to calculate headcount/automation requirements, considering site characteristics, using methodology to build productivity rates and understanding the impacts of the operation on any design work


New Business Development: Attend industry associated exhibitions and conferences to obtain information on the market and creative trends.  Engage with suppliers and work closely with the Senior Management Teams to consult and explore the development of new business services.


Client Retention / Growth: Attend meetings and work with existing clients as required to ensure that good business relationships are maintained, taking an active role in reviewing data, assessing customer profiles and helping optimise/alter operational processes with both a commercial and operational awareness


New Business Implementation:  Taking an active role in new business implementations ensuring that the solution concept sold is implemented. Including alignment in SOP’s, productivities and subsequent headcount blue collar & white collar, MHE, investments, space, layout etc.  Presenting data analysis driving the solution and expected volumes


Department Development: Working with the wider business to identify areas/projects where SD can add value – centralising and standardising approaches to ensure best practice consistency across sites


Department Goals: Researching into new innovations within the industry


General: Participating in and completing DSV Solutions / DSV Group Sales and Customer initiatives


General: Promoting the good name of DSV Solutions (and its associated companies within the DSV Group) by adopting a professional approach at all times.

General responsibilities


  1. Understand and comply with all relevant Company rules, agreements, policies, procedures and with all relevant legislative requirements and codes of practice.
  2. Ensure Company business is treated in the strictest confidence and not disclosed to persons outside the Company.
  3. Act in a professional manner, ensure good working relationships are maintained and promote a good image of the Company at all times
  4. Maintain and comply with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards, to be aware of the Occupational Health & Safety Management System, OHSAS18001 and to appreciate the responsibility you have to adhere to the respective procedures.
  5. Be aware that the Company operates a Quality Assurance system ISO 9001:2008 and adhere to the respective procedures.
  6. Ensure a good standard of housekeeping through observance of relevant Company policies and ensure that work areas are secure and locked when unoccupied.
  7. Where appropriate challenge and determine reasons for presence on site of any unauthorised person.
  8. Attend any development training as required in compliance with the Company’s commitment to the Investors In People standard.


 Key working relationships

Business Development – Understand pipeline and new business projects, working on operational solutions and aligning with business development to help create cost models for responses


Project Management – Handover operational processes and layout designs to help ensure smooth transition from concept design to realisation of a new business win


Site Managers – Assist with data analytical projects where differences in scope and volumes have been identified.  Propose opportunities to implement innovation to help overcome site challenges


General Manager WMS – Align operational designs with system capabilities to ensure streamlined implementations







Other Information

 Significant travel may be required as part of the job role (UK, EU & Global), employee must be able to accommodate this where reasonably possible including outside of contracted work hours.  As such, working hours can be made flexible
