Summary 

The Customs Assistant provides administrative support and assists in managing customs-related activities within the transportation and logistics industry. They support the customs team in handling documentation, coordinating with stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with customs regulations. The Customs Assistant plays a crucial role in facilitating smooth customs processes and ensuring timely clearance of goods. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in preparing and reviewing customs documentation, including import and export declarations. 

  • Coordinate with internal teams, customs brokers, and government agencies to facilitate customs clearance. 

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date knowledge of customs regulations and procedures. 

  • Support the resolution of customs-related issues and inquiries. 

  • Assist in monitoring and tracking customs clearance progress and resolving delays or issues. 

  • Conduct data entry and maintain customs-related records and documentation. 

  • Provide administrative support to the customs team, including scheduling meetings and maintaining files. 

  • Assist in coordinating customs audits and compliance reviews. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure timely and accurate submission of customs documents. 

  • Stay informed about changes in customs regulations, trade agreements, and industry practices. 

  • Support the development and implementation of customs compliance procedures and policies. 

 

Educational background / Work experience 

  • Prior experience in a customs-related role is beneficial but not always required. 

  • Familiarity with customs operations and documentation is advantageous. 

 

Skills & Competencies 

  • Basic knowledge of customs regulations and procedures. 

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in customs documentation. 

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills. 

  • Effective communication and interpersonal abilities. 

  • Proficiency in data entry and record-keeping. 

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities. 

  • Familiarity with import and export processes and customs clearance procedures. 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Certification in customs compliance or a related field is a plus. 

  • Previous experience in the transportation and logistics industry is beneficial. 

  • Familiarity with customs management software and tools. 

 

Language skills 

  • Fluent in English (oral and written) 

 

Computer Literacy 

  • Proficient in using Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook). 

  • Familiarity with customs management software and tools. 

  • Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new software and technology platforms used in customs operations.

The Pay Range for this position is: $14,00 $18,00  Hourly USD. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations
