Role
As Manager, Road Operations, your primary responsibility is to oversee and manage the smooth and efficient transportation operations on the road.
You will be responsible for coordinating and optimizing the movement of goods, vehicles, and drivers to ensure timely delivery while maintaining high-quality service levels
Responsibilities:
- Plan and schedule transportation routes and activities to optimize delivery efficiency while considering factors such as delivery windows, load capacities, and customer requirements. Collaborate with other departments, such as customer service and warehouse, to ensure effective coordination of transportation activities.
- Manage and maintain the company's fleet of vehicles, including trucks, vans, or other modes of transportation. Monitor vehicle availability, utilization, and performance. Coordinate with maintenance teams for regular servicing, repairs, and inspections to ensure optimal fleet functionality.
- Coordinate driver schedules and assignments, ensuring adequate staffing levels to meet transportation demands. Communicate with drivers to provide necessary instructions, updates, and support. Monitor driver performance, adherence to schedules, and compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Coordinate the loading and unloading of goods onto vehicles, ensuring proper securing and documentation of shipments. Optimize load planning to maximize vehicle capacity utilization and minimize transportation costs. Ensure compliance with weight restrictions and safety regulations.
- Monitor and track deliveries in real-time using transportation management systems or tracking software. Communicate with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders to provide delivery updates, address concerns, and resolve any issues that may arise during transportation.
- Ensure compliance with transportation regulations, including driver hours-of-service regulations, weight restrictions, and vehicle maintenance requirements. Promote and enforce safety protocols and best practices to minimize accidents and maintain a safe working environment.
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) related to transportation operations, such as on-time delivery, driver productivity, and fuel consumption. Analyze data, identify areas for improvement, and implement strategies to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve customer satisfaction.
- Collaborate with carriers, third-party logistics providers, and other transportation partners to ensure seamless execution of transportation services. Coordinate activities, negotiate contracts, monitor performance, and maintain positive relationships to support operational objectives
Required Qualification, Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in logistics, supply chain management, or a related field (preferred)
- Proven experience in transportation operations management within the logistics industry
- Strong knowledge of transportation regulations, compliance requirements, and industry best practices
- Proficiency in using transportation management systems, route optimization software, and tracking tools
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing priorities
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with drivers, customers, and internal teams
- Familiarity with safety protocols and ability to enforce compliance with safety regulations
- Analytical mindset with the ability to analyze data, generate reports, and derive actionable insights
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
