Summary

The Business Development Director, Defense Compliance is a pivotal role within the Defense vertical, responsible for overseeing regional defense accounts, ensuring compliance with hazmat regulations, and driving the training and development of defense teams. This individual will implement best practices, foster strong client relationships, and collaborate with internal teams to deliver world-class service to Defense and Aerospace clients. Additionally, the role provides input and influence on a global scale to enhance the company’s defense-related operations.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regional Defense and Aerospace clients, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction and retention.
  • Manage and expand relationships with existing accounts, identifying opportunities for growth and improved service delivery.
  • Act as a liaison between clients and internal teams, ensuring clear communication and alignment of goals.
  • Ensure all operations comply with hazmat regulations and standards, providing expertise and oversight for shipments involving hazardous materials.
  • Conduct regular audits and implement corrective actions to mitigate risks related to hazmat logistics.
  • Lead the training and development initiatives for regional defense teams, ensuring team members are equipped with the skills and knowledge to meet client expectations.
  • Deliver training focused on compliance, best practices, and client-specific requirements.
  • Develop, document, and enforce best practices in defense logistics and account management.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve processes to enhance efficiency, compliance, and client satisfaction.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with Defense and Aerospace clients, understanding their unique needs and aligning services to meet those needs.
  • Represent the company at client meetings, industry events, and trade shows to enhance the company’s reputation and visibility.
  • Work closely with internal teams, including Operations, Compliance, and Customer Service, to ensure seamless execution of client services.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for defense-related logistics, providing guidance and support to cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborate with global defense teams to align regional efforts with the company’s overall defense strategy.
  • Provide input and recommendations on global policies, procedures, and initiatives related to the defense sector.

Educational background / Work experience / Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Logistics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7 + years of experience in Defense and Aerospace account management or a related field.
  • Experience working with Defense and Aerospace clients in a freight forwarding or logistics environment.
  • Proven ability to train and develop teams, with strong leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Deep knowledge of Defense / Hazmat regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Good knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (MS Dynamics) tools

 

Language Skills

  • Business fluent in English
  • Preferably good command of local language
  • Multilingual capabilities are a plus.

 

Computer Literacy

  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and others)
  • Good knowledge of Customer Relationship Management (MS Dynamics) Tools

 

Physical and/or Mental Requirements / Working Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand.  The employee is often required to walk and use hand and eye coordination.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.   

 

Work Hours and Environment

Normal working hours for this position are Monday – Friday from 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM, however, working beyond these hours will often be required by business needs.

For this position, the expected base pay is: $137,500 - $206,000/ Annual.  Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
