October 1st - 7th, 2023: Golden Week in China

On Sunday, October 1st, China's annual Golden Week begins. What impact could this have on your supply chain?

Golden Week 2023

Golden Week, what is it again?

Each year in China, from October 1st to 7th, the 'Golden Week' is celebrated. During this period, the Chinese mark the establishment of the People's Republic of China with a wide range of national and local festivities, such as grand flag ceremonies, enormous fireworks display, military parades, sports competitions, and other events.

During the national holiday week, many residents of China take the opportunity to visit their families, especially in rural areas of China. The massive influx of travellers during this period places significant strain on the country's infrastructure. Additionally, Chinese government institutions, offices, and factories are often closed during this period.

What is the impact on your logistics?

During this week, China appears to come to a virtual standstill. While the major airports and seaport terminals remain operational, they operate with minimal staff. After October 7th, activities slowly resume, which means that the logistics sector will not immediately operate at full capacity.

Is DSV China operational during Golden Week?

DSV China offices will be closed from September 29th to October 6th. Extra working days are scheduled for Saturday, October 7th, and Sunday, October 8th. Therefore, DSV China will open its offices one day earlier. The impact on DSV Hong Kong and DSV Macau will be less significant as they will be closed from September 30th to October 2nd.

If you are a customer of DSV and have questions regarding your shipments to and from China in relation to Golden Week, your dedicated contact person is available for further information and assistance.
