Protest week in Germany from January 8, 2024 disrupts national freight traffic and ports

Several parallel protest actions lead to significant restrictions across all modes of transport

dsv road blocks

In the upcoming week, considerable restrictions are to be expected in all modes of transport throughout Germany. This is due to several parallel protest actions called by the German Train Drivers' Union (GDL), the German Farmers' Association (DBV) and the Federal Association of Road Haulage, Logistics and Disposal (BGL).

The exact start and duration of the protests are not yet known. From Monday, 8 January 2024 and the following days, however, we must assume that processes at the German ports in Hamburg, Bremerhaven and Wilhelmshaven, as well as in nationwide freight traffic, will be significantly disrupted. In addition to demonstrations with tractors next Monday, the GDL and Verdi are threatening to strike on public transport. The BGL has also called for protest actions, which could also lead to disruptions in land transport and the delivery obligation for guaranteed products in national groupage transport is cancelled in the short term.

DSV is monitoring the situation closely and we are doing everything we can to minimise the impact on our customers and will have to react flexibly to a dynamic situation. We regret the associated inconvenience and are of course available to answer your questions at any time.
