FAQ

DSV offers a comprehensive range of transport services, including air freight, sea freight, road transport, and multimodal solutions. We also provide warehousing, distribution, and customs clearance to manage your supply chain efficiently. For urgent deliveries, we offer XPress services, where shipments are prioritized to ensure the fastest possible transit time.

Transit times vary depending on the chosen mode of transport and the specific route. Air freight typically takes between 2 and 7 days, while sea freight from European ports to major US ports such as Los Angeles, Long Beach, Oakland, and New York usually takes between 10 and 30 days, depending on the sailing schedule and any intermediate stops.

DSV offers both FCL (Full Container Load) and LCL (Less than Container Load) sea freight solutions, working with leading shipping lines and airlines to ensure efficient and reliable transport routes. With DSV’s advanced track & trace solutions, you can monitor your shipments in real time, always giving you full visibility into the location and progress of your transport.

Transport costs are determined by factors such as volume, weight, the chosen mode of transport, and any applicable import duties. In addition, fuel surcharges, seasonal rate fluctuations, and port or airport fees can also affect the final price. Please contact us for a tailored quotation.
Shipping to the United States requires several documents to comply with strict customs and security regulations. The basic documentation includes a commercial invoice, a packing list, and a Bill of Lading (B/L) for sea freight or an Air Waybill (AWB) for air freight.

The commercial invoice provides details about the shipper and consignee, a description of the goods, their value, country of origin, and HS codes. The packing list gives a detailed overview of the packed items, including quantities, weight, and dimensions. These documents form the basis of the customs declaration.

Depending on the nature of the goods, additional documents or permits may be required. These may include a certificate of origin, safety declarations, FDA approvals for food or medical products, or import licences for regulated goods such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, electronics, or animal products.

Furthermore, US Customs often requires an Importer Security Filing (ISF) for sea freight, which must be submitted electronically at least 24 hours before loading at the port of export. Failure to comply may result in fines or delays.
DSV offers expert support in customs clearance to ensure your shipment meets US regulations and is processed smoothly.
Major seaports include Los Angeles, Long Beach, New York/New Jersey, and Savannah. For air freight, key hubs are Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), and Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD). Our strong presence in these strategic logistics hubs enables us to provide fast and efficient transport solutions.
The USMCA (United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement), which replaced NAFTA, plays a key role in facilitating trade between the US, Canada, and Mexico. This agreement offers eligible businesses preferential access and reduced or zero import duties on goods that meet the rules of origin.

For European companies exporting to the US via Mexico or Canada, USMCA can be a valuable element of a regional supply chain strategy. DSV provides guidance on the appropriate documentation and certificates of origin, allowing you to take full advantage of the agreement’s benefits, including faster border clearance and reduced costs.
