EU ETS (Emissions Trading System)

The EU ETS is a cornerstone of the EU’s policy to combat climate change and its key tool for reducing greenhouse gas emissions cost-effectively. The EU Parliament decided to establish the EU ETS system for the shipping industry by 1st of January 2024 and has a significant impact on the cost of CO2 emissions in transport.
ETS means that companies that cause emissions will be charged in relation to the number of emissions they produce, pushing them to work on a significant reduction. This is a regulatory initiative aiming to reduce CO2 emissions in the transport sector.
For DSV Road, this will impact our cargo vessel shipping on routes within the EU.
