DSV strengthens pharmaceutical logistics capabilities with new Abu Dhabi hub
A new pharmaceutical logistics hub in Abu Dhabi will support MSD in the distribution of medicines across the UAE and more than 10 markets in the Middle East and Africa, with operations expected to begin in January 2027.
Getting medicines to the people who need them depends on more than manufacturing. Products must be stored under appropriate conditions, handled carefully and moved efficiently across borders to reach their destinations.
Located in Khalifa Economic Zones Abu Dhabi (KEZAD), the new hub is expected to begin operations in January 2027. It will support the storage, handling, distribution and re-export of products from MSD’s portfolio, supporting pharmaceutical supply across the region.
Supporting pharmaceutical distribution across the region
DSV will manage the facility’s logistics operations, including the storage and handling of pharmaceutical products and their distribution to local and regional markets.
The hub will accommodate products requiring ambient storage at 15–25°C and cold-chain storage at 2–8°C, in line with applicable pharmaceutical quality and regulatory requirements.
By positioning these operations in Abu Dhabi, MSD aims to strengthen the resilience, efficiency and compliance of its regional pharmaceutical supply network.
“Expanding our healthcare logistics capabilities in Abu Dhabi is an important step in strengthening DSV’s presence in a strategically significant regional market. By combining specialised pharmaceutical handling with our regional and global network, we aim to support the safe, timely and reliable distribution of medicines to the markets and patients that depend on them,” shared DSV’s Hiro Wadhwani, Contract Logistics, Middle East & Africa.
Abu Dhabi’s role in regional distribution
Abu Dhabi’s international air connectivity and established healthcare ecosystem provide a strong base for coordinating pharmaceutical distribution between global supply sources and regional markets.
For MSD, the hub is intended to help reduce distribution lead times and operational costs while maintaining product integrity. These objectives highlight the importance of having distribution operations positioned to serve multiple markets efficiently.
Developing healthcare logistics in the region
The new operation marks a further step in DSV’s pharmaceutical logistics development in the Middle East and Africa. It also creates a platform to explore further opportunities in Abu Dhabi’s healthcare logistics sector as customer needs evolve.
