Four Volvo FH Aero electric trucks are now on the road as part of the global agreement between DSV and Volvo

Sustainability at DSV means meeting the needs of today’s global supply chains without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. DSV are continuously reviewing and implementing sustainable solutions.

Sustainability at DSV means meeting the needs of today’s global supply chains without compromising the ability of future generations to meet theirs. DSV are continuously reviewing and implementing sustainable solutions. This strategy has resulted in us signing an agreement with Volvo to purchase 4 FH Aero EV’s. These new vehicles feature improved aerodynamics, making them highly efficient. The four new arrivals are direct replacements for older diesel models in the DSV fleet. Based in Immingham, these are the first articulated EV’s to be put into operation in the UK and will be used on routes previously served by diesel trucks, resulting in immediate carbon savings.

In Immingham, DSV currently have 10 vehicles powered by HVO Fuel and a further 10 powered by Compressed Natural Gas. Additionally, a final-mile fleet is in operation in Purfleet and Mercia Park of around 60 vehicles, which are all powered by HVO. It is initiatives such as these that are reducing emissions and helping DSV to reach future targets.

Keith Northen, Manager, Divisional, Road, DSV, says: “The transport and logistics sector makes a significant impact on carbon emissions, supply chains can be drivers of climate change and tackling these emissions gives businesses power to accelerate climate action. When introducing new technology into a working fleet, you need a partner that understands the operational challenges and can offer real-world solutions, which is why DSV chose Volvo as a partner. Its approach to range, reliability, and infrastructure support aligns with our needs and we know we can rely on its support network to keep us moving. The FH Aero Electric offers the right balance of range, payload capacity and aerodynamic efficiency for our operational needs. We have researched the possibility of facilitating Electric vehicles without impacting service levels for some time and look forward to evaluating the benefits in the coming months.”

In 2024, DSV and Volvo established a global agreement to deploy 300 electric trucks across DSV operations in Europe. The agreement also includes 500 Best-in-Class diesel trucks from Volvo, that will be deployed throughout this and next year.

Both DSV and Volvo Group are committed to the Science-based Targets Initiative, which drives ambitious climate action in the private sector.
