Weather update: Hurricane Francine impacts Louisiana and broader Gulf Coast

Heavy rainfall, damaging winds, storm surge, and possible tornadoes could cause disruptions to New Orleans.

Hurricane Francine struck Louisiana earlier this week as a Category 2 storm, with wind speeds reaching 100 mph according to Bay News 9. Once it made landfall, it brought dangerous storm surges of up to 10 feet and heavy rainfall, leading to significant flooding and power outages for thousands of residents.

Some ports along the Gulf Coast saw operations halted due to storm surges and heavy rainfall.

Port NOLA Operations

  • September 13, 2024 - Terminal operations have return to normal operations.

Breakbulk Operations

  • September 13, 2024 - QSL and Ports America will be open for business.

Cold Storage Operations - Lineage Logistics

  • September 13, 2024 - Lineage Logistics’ normal operations are open.

Hurricane Francine is approaching Louisiana and is expected to make landfall by this evening. The storm brings serious threats, including heavy rainfall, damaging winds, storm surge, and possible tornadoes. According to The Weather Channel, “Maximum sustained winds were 90 mph as of 11 a.m. CDT, making Francine a strong Category 1 hurricane.”

As conditions worsen throughout the day, we anticipate disruptions in logistics operations across Louisiana and the broader Gulf Coast.

 

Port NOLA Closures and Delays

  • September 11, 2024 - New Orleans Terminal and Ports America (including the LA Ave. Chassis Terminal) will be closed.
  • September 12, 2024 - The Port of New Orleans (Port NOLA) is currently conducting damage assessments following Hurricane Francine. Terminal operations are closed for clean-up.
  • September 13, 2024 - Preparing the terminals to return to normal operations.

Breakbulk Operations

  • September 11, 2024 - QSL and Ports America will be closed.
  • September 12, 2024 - QSL will be closed for damage assessments and Ports America's normal operations are closed.

Cold Storage Operations-Lineage Logistics

  • September 11, 2024 - Lineage logistics will be closed.
  • September 12, 2024 - Lineage logistics normal operations are pending. Lineage will be conducting damage assessments at 6 a.m. CDT and operations may resume weather and terminal conditions permitting.
