Transport of goods during COVID-19 lockdown

Only essential services for the next 21 days

DSV will continue transporting goods in South Africa during the COVID-19 lockdown – but only those identified by government as essential services (click here for the Road Freight Association’s Guidelines on essential goods and services).

Our operational and resource plans are in place to fulfil our obligations and support the national effort in combating the spread of COVID-19. But bear in mind we are not allowed, during the 21-day lockdown, to transport items deemed non-essential.

It is our customers’ responsibility to provide written confirmation that their product is classified as “essential services” in order to protect both our customers and DSV from engaging in activity which could be deemed illegal.

Please contact your DSV account manager or local contact to get this document to complete and return to us.

Supply chains are complex, and we will be talking to transport and port authorities to clarify which additional movements will be allowed to avoid unnecessary port congestion. We will update you as and when additional information is available.

The lockdown becomes effective from midnight tonight, Thursday 26 March. We have responded quickly to the changing operational landscape and will continue to deliver goods during this period to ensure South Africans, wherever they are, continue to access “essential services” during the lockdown.
We believe that by working together with all our stakeholders, following the health and hygiene guidelines, we will help defeat the spread of COVID-19.
