DSV SHIFT Academy graduation 2025

Celebrating growth, achievements, and a bright future for South African youth

Premier Alan Winde attended the SHIFT Academy 2025 graduation congratulating the young cyclists

The DSV SHIFT Academy proudly marks its 4th year of empowering youth development through cycling and education, celebrating a phenomenal year of growth, achievement, and community support in 2025.

In attendance were DSV representatives, proud parents, sponsors, and special guests, including the Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde. His support for the Academy underscores the importance of public-private partnerships in driving community development through initiatives that empower young people.

This year has been a milestone not only for performance on the cycling track but also for the Academy's continued mission to provide opportunity, structure, and hope for youth in the Drakenstein community.

Among the many highlights of 2025, the Academy celebrates the remarkable achievement of several of its riders being selected to represented South Africa on the international stage.

Noah September

  1. Continental points race champion (Cairo)
  2. Continental team pursuit champion (Cairo)
  3. Participated in Junior Worlds (Netherlands)

Ethan Kulsen

  1. Continental Silver & Bronze medalist (Cairo)

This is Ethans' last year with the Academy and it has been a privilege to have him with us and see him develop into a successful cyclist.

Santino Johnston

  1. Bronze medal in the sprint at Continental Champs (Cairo)
Today, as we celebrate the achievements of the cyclists and the opening of this expanded facility, we also look forward to the opportunities it will create, for the current and future generations of cyclists, and the surrounding communities.

Anthony Diack, Managing Director - DSV Contract Logistics, South Africa

With growth came challenges. Space and resources were stretched as more children joined the Academy. Thanks to the invaluable support of partners and corporate supporters, the Academy successfully extended its facility with a new second level in 2025.

This upgrade has created two vital spaces:

  • A dedicated cycling and training area, supported by state-of-the-art Technogym equipment.
  • A comfortable, safe learning area, where children can focus on their homework and education after training.

This development ensures that the Academy continues to nurture not only athletes but also well-rounded, confident young individuals who are prepared for life beyond sport.

The Academy's vision is clear, to create opportunity, to inspire hope, and to use sports education as a powerful tool for youth development in South Africa.

Through mentorship, structured training, and access to facilities normally reserved for elite athletes, the DSV SHIFT Academy provides underprivileged children with a chance to grow in body, mind and  spirit.

The Academy acknowledges the unwavering support of DSV Transport and Logistics South Africa, who's partnership has been central to sustaining and growing the program. Their belief in the Academy's mission has made it possible to reach more children and expand the impact year after year.

As the DSV SHIFT Academy steps into its 5th year, it remains committed to unlocking potential and shaping futures.

"There's a well-known proverb that says, "It takes a village to raise a child." At DSV, we are grateful for the role we've been privileged to play in the journey of these remarkable cyclists, but we know we are not alone. The village includes the co-founders, Malcolm and Jackie, the dedicated support staff, and all the sponsors. Thank you to everyone who gives so generously of their time and resources to make this dream a reality. Congratulations to each of the cyclists who have embraced this opportunity with such passion and commitment, and who continue to make us proud through their achievements, both on and off the bike," says Anthony Diack, Managing Director - DSV Contract Logistics, South Africa.

Every child who becomes part of the DSV SHIFT Academy is more than just a cyclist. They are a dreamer, a determined young adult, and a future leader. We celebrate each and every one of them, not only for what they achieve on the track, but for the discipline, resilience, and confidence they gain through being part of this journey.
