DSV – Global Transport and Logistics launches a new investment in Łódź
DSV – Global Transport and Logistics launches another investment. The operator will expand its logistics center in Łódź, central Poland, which serves as its superhub in the country. This will increase the role of Łódź as a key logistics hub for road transport, through which shipments will pass to recipients across Europe. As part of the investment, a modern multi-client warehouse equipped with the latest environmentally friendly technologies will also be built.
Last year, DSV – Global Transport and Logistics announced a long-term investment program in Poland. The plan involves implementation of a series of projects aimed not only at increasing the stability of domestic and international supply chains but also at strengthening Poland's position as a key element in the European logistics architecture.
The next project to be implemented by DSV will be a new logistics center in the Łódź agglomeration.
Łódź was chosen as the location for the so-called superhub for groupage transports, which means it will serve as a transshipment point for a significant volume of groupage, aimed both at import and export. It was extremely important for us to align the facility's standard that will support the goals we set with regard to the development of the groupage product by increasing the area and number of docks, says Aristoteleis Liadis, Director, Road International BENELUX, FEP&EAST. The adopted solutions will allow for more efficient transshipment operations, while also improving the conditions for employees to perform their tasks.
The DSV logistics center in Łódź will have a total surface of over 26,000 square meters, and will combine 3 functions: office space (1,956 sq m), a classic multi-client warehouse (23,707 sq m), and a transshipment terminal (5,679 sq m). The transshipment area will be equipped with 32 docks for trucks, including an additional gate at ground level (+0).
According to our estimates, thanks to the large size of the warehouse space, we will be able to handle up to 40% more international and domestic shipments than we do today. We expect that the excellent location of Łódź on the map of Poland, its great road connections with the most important cities in the country, as well as international routes, will make the new multibrand facility a perfect fit for the needs of the market. – explains Aristoteleis Liadis. – The new warehouse, will utilize the latest technologies, which will offer future clients exceptional quality and standard of service.
In line with DSV’s strategy, all facilities built by the operator must utilize the most advanced technologies that will support the company in reaching its sustainable development goals. These include, among other things, reducing emissions to net zero level by 2050. Therefore, already at the design phase of the logistics center in Łódź, the effective use of the latest environmentally friendly solutions was a priority set for the architects. As a result, after the construction is completed, the new facility will meet high ecological standards. As part of the investment, photovoltaic panels with an estimated total capacity of 2 MWp will be installed, making the building emission-free. Inside, LED lights will be installed, together with a dedicated IT management system. However, sustainable development is not only about environmental issues but about the employees' well-being as well. With their needs in mind, a chill-out space, a large, comfortable, glass-enclosed canteen, an electric bike charging station, and a shelter with a leisure area will be created.
DSV plans to begin construction works in January 2025, with the expected start of logistics operations in the fourth quarter of 2025. Rexbud company has been selected as the general contractor for the project.
