Perishables specialist strengthens DSV offering

take off for DSV Skyservices

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to many mutually beneficial partnerships being formed – and none more so than within DSV, where most recently Air & Sea and DSV Skyservices worked together on an air charter to deliver solutions to both inbound and outbound customers.

The projects highlight how A&S and DSV Skyservices will be “stronger together”.

A&S now offers its customers the added value of end-to-end export solutions for perishables from South Africa to Europe, the Middle East, Far East and the USA, and import solutions from various markets, including Africa.

DSV Skyservices gains many advantages – global presence, e-commerce, cross-silo opportunities in distribution, long haul, last mile delivery and cross border, and much more – from joining one of the world’s largest and most effective supply chain networks.

DSV Skyservices joined the DSV fold when Panalpina – which owned a majority stake in Skyservices – was acquired by DSV AS in September 2019. While the companies have been working together over the last few months, the official go-live is on 1 June 2020, and by then DSV Skyservices will be fully integrated into A&S, technologically and operationally.

Operating from world-class facilities at OR Tambo International, Johannesburg, and Cape Town International airports, DSV Skyservices provides freight forwarding and related logistics and documentation processes to exporters and importers of fruit, vegetables, flowers, meat, fish and other perishables.

Perishables make up 40% of South Africa’s air freight exports, and globally it is a significant business, with DSV operating in more than 26 countries. There are opportunities to grow the category in Southern Africa, and DSV Skyservices is well placed to leverage the many attributes it now brings to the table.

“Becoming part of the DSV Air & Sea team puts us in a stronger position with greater potential to service our customer base and further grow our relationships with service providers and new customers”

Bernd Julicher, MD - DSV Skyservices.

DSV Skyservices runs a 2,000 m2 warehouse inside OR Tambo International Airport and a purpose-built, 1,700 m2 warehouse just outside Cape Town International Airport, which means there is no need for third party handling pre-hand in.

Since its inception 20 years ago, DSV Skyservices has built its reputation on a deep understanding of its customers’ needs, tailor making solutions to meet their logistics needs and excellent relationships with airlines and other suppliers
