12 Months with AutoStore
In February 2024, DSV – Global Transport and Logistics began operations using the AutoStore system. As the first operator in Poland, DSV introduced robotic contract logistics services in a multi-client warehouse facility. DSV experts summarized the most interesting insights after nearly 12 months of implementation the solution.

AutoStore was created to meet the needs of companies aiming primarily for growth through the development of sales in digital channels and who, for various reasons, would like to place their main logistics centers in Poland. In this context, modern technology guarantees the speed, predictability, seamlessness, and quality of the supply chain, regardless of the distance between the warehouse and the consumer.
According to Statista data, by 2028, eCommerce sales in the Nordic countries will amount to $56.9 billion, while in Germany it will hit $132 billion. Through our investment, we wanted to provide our clients with a tool to leverage these trends. - says Piotr Wojtkowski, sales and marketing director for contract logistics, DSV – Global Transport and Logistics. - Today, consumers’ experience during the delivery stage is crucial for building loyalty and, consequently, long-term business success in eCommerce. As an operator, we understand that logistics is part of our clients' brand-development processes, which is why we invest in the best solutions that support them in reaching these goals, while providing real competitive advantages.
DSV chose a warehouse facility in Łozienica near Szczecin as the location for the first AutoStore system installation. The decision on the location followed numerous analyses. A key factor was the position of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship on the European supply chain architecture. Over the last eight years, the region has become a logistics hub for local and European enterprises, that ship goods to countries such as Germany, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland from Northern Poland.
AutoStore in practice: key findings
- Space Utilization Efficiency
The warehouse floor area occupied by AutoStore is only 2,370 square meters. However, to handle the same volume with traditional methods, a facility of ca. 12,000 square meters would be required.
- Maximum Efficiency in Warehouse Processes
The fleet of robots used in Łozienica consists of 61 machines managing 90,000 bins containing goods. The robots have increased picking efficiency by 63%.
- Minimization of Picking Errors
Since implementing the system, order picking accuracy has increased to 99.75%. In comparison, the average rate in traditionally operated warehouses averages at 99.50%. The few errors mostly result from mistakes during the phase, where products are registered as stock in the AutoStore system. It is a process that is still being perfected.
- Enhanced Product Safety
The bins containing goods are stored in a tightly sealed structure, accessible only to robots or authorized personnel. This minimizes the risk of damage and effectively protects products from dust and other external factors.
- Cost Variability Reduction
Over the past nine years, warehouse employee wages have increased by an average of 9% annually. Process automation helps mitigate the impact of these increases on operational costs.
- Tradition and Modernity Under One Roof
AutoStore occupies only a part of the Łozienica facility, which has a total area of 19,215 square meters. Parallel to robotic operations, traditional model activities are conducted. This allows for all types of stock to be located in one place, and to manage all sales channels – both eCommerce/B2C and B2B – from a single location.
After the first year of operation, AutoStore has proven effective in increasing warehouse operational efficiency, as well as costs, and improving service quality. With modern solutions, DSV is better suited to meet customer needs, providing high flexibility and top-quality operations.
