DSV – Global Transport and Logistics recognized in the latest report by the Responsible Business Forum

"Responsible Business in Poland. Best Practices" is the largest annual review of CSR and sustainable development initiatives. The latest edition, premiered during the 25th anniversary gala of the Responsible Business Forum (FOB), included 957 projects implemented by 265 companies. Among them were five initiatives implemented by DSV – Global Transport and Logistics.

FOB Raport

Best practices were categorized into seven areas, according to the international ISO 26000 standard. As in the previous edition of the report, this year most of the submitted activities concerned social involvement and development of local communities (396 best practices), labor practices (228), and environment (206). The least represented areas were: consumer issues (55), human rights (32), organizational governance (23), and fair operating practices (16).

Among the activities featured in this year’s publication were five projects implemented in Poland by DSV – Global Transport and Logistics. The logistics operator’s submitted initiatives covered the areas of social involvement and development of local communities, environmental responsibility, local community development, and labor practices.

Social Involvment

One of the pillars of a sustainable business is active support for local communities and initiatives. In this year’s FOB report, two DSV projects that serve this goal were included.

The grant program "Think Globally – Act Locally" enabled employees from 19 DSV branches involved in contract logistics operations in Poland to submit social initiatives they believed deserved financial support. To obtain funding for the organization of their choice, applicants had to demonstrate alignment of the proposed project with DSV Group's Sustainable Development Strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Our team appreciated having real influence on the company’s social engagement decisions. Seeing the positive effects in terms of greater awareness of the UN SDGs and our sustainability strategy, as well as the high engagement of staff, we plan to continue the program next year - says Agnieszka Kłopotowska, Sustainability Manager at DSV – Global Transport and Logistics.

The second social initiative recognized in the review was "Biking April – Kilometers Turned into Good", where employees’ ridden kilometers were converted into food donations for animals from local shelters.

Transport Decarbonization

Transport decarbonization is currently one of the key challenges for the entire TSL sector. Both regulators and customers expect increasingly significant CO₂ emissions reductions. This commitment is reflected in DSV – Global Transport and Logistics’ strategy, which pledges to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Responsible Business Forum recognized two practices used by DSV in Poland in this regard.

The first is a container management tool used in operations. It helps plan transports to increase triangulation – using empty containers for loading goods in nearby locations instead of returning them to warehouses.

In 2023, before implementing our solution, the triangulation rate for all shipments handled by DSV in Poland was 20%. After launching the tool in May 2024, it increased by 14%. By reducing empty container transports, we achieve lower emissions and simultaneously reduce operational costs - says Katarzyna Jurewicz, Sustainability Specialist at DSV – Global Transport and Logistics.

The Responsible Business Forum’s report also included DSV’s implementation of Double Deck trailers on national groupage routes. This solution allows for loading and transporting more goods in one trip. Data from the last two quarters of 2024 show that average vehicle fill rates on individual LTL routes increased by approx. 10%, and on the most popular routes – even by 22%.

Thanks to the wide implementation of double-floor trailers, we reduced the number of shuttle trucks between DSV branches by approx. 6%. This means that an average of 11 fewer trucks are on the roads each day, resulting in lower fossil fuel consumption and improved fleet and logistics resource management, - says Kinga Daniszenko, Sustainability Coordinator at DSV – Global Transport and Logistics.

Education

Effective action toward achieving sustainable development goals requires proper knowledge. Therefore, education – particularly of management staff – is crucial. In response to this need, representatives of all DSV companies in Poland, from departments such as quality, compliance, marketing, and HR, jointly created a proprietary development program called SustainAbility.

Over 60 pepople in director-level or higher positions and 200 people in specialist or managerial positions participated in the program. Participants gained comprehensive knowledge about the energy transition, climate risks, recent ESG regulatory changes, and industry-specific regulations such as CBAM and ETS2.
