The Madhatter's food party

DSV delivers 21,000 food packs to the needy

Madhatters food party
What started as a social rally by a group of friends has developed into the iconic WegRy SA Bull Run, an old-jalopy motorsport event that takes place in the Northern Cape – and it encourages random acts of kindness to those in need in the province.

DSV’S Sales Director, Corne Pienaar and three friends entered their Madhatter team in the 2019 rally – and their “random act of kindness” escalated into a significant contribution to three organisations serving destitute and needy people in the Northern Cape.

“When hearts and minds open, miracles can happen”, said Corne.

DSV asked Tekkie Tax to nominate the three beneficiary welfare organisations, Sesego Foundation sponsored the food packs and we transported the 21,000 food packs to Kimberly, and made premises available for the handover.

The beneficiaries were Huis Spes Bona (home for the elderly in Douglas), Caritas (child and youth care centre in Kimberly) and Yonder Mental Health (Centre for Adults with an Intellectual Disability).

More than 130 cars, not older than 1980 vintage, take part in the two-day SA Bull Run rally at Vanwyksvlei in the Northern Cape. Corne and his team will be taking part again in 2020, and looking to better their 34th position – and their “random act of kindness”.

  • Sesego Foundation was established 14 years ago - has touched the lives of over 1,4 million, and raised over R38million in cash or kind. Its mission is to get personally involved in making a sustainable contribution to the well-being of the Southern African communities.
  • Tekkie Tax is an NPO owned and managed by welfare organisations, for the benefit of welfare organisations.
