Turning a young boy's drone dream into a Christmas to remember
From South Africa to Texas - How a young boy's love for drones turned into a magical Christmas story, showcasing the power of dreams and heartfelt connections.

When the dad of a five-year-old boy living in Texas, USA emailed DSV in South Africa about his son's love of drones - and the view from the air of DSV's facility in Gauteng - he never dreamed just how this would translate into a Christmas to remember.
In his email, Oliver's dad, John, mentioned that the family uses an app called "Plane Finder" to track airplanes and drones. One morning, while out together, they noticed hot air balloons and tried to track them using the app. This curiosity led to the discovery of a drone flying over DSV Park | Gauteng. Oliver was fascinated and quickly became obsessed with watching the drone designed to enhance security at the facility.
"Each evening before bed, we have to check if it's out, (and) try to count how many laps it has done. He regularly asks why we don't have one, and long story short, it has become a part of our everyday life."
This fascination has led to Oliver reading about the different drones that exist, learning about aviation and looking out for the DSV logo on various trucks and trailers. John's request of DSV was modest: "I was curious if there is some chance that anyone on that team could send a photo of the drone, facility or just something that acknowledges him and his love for not only drones but DSV?"
When Claudia de Jonge, General Manager (Marketing and Communications, DSV South Africa), received the email, she immediately responded. The team in South Africa then jumped into action, and together with drone supplier Verity and colleagues in the USA, delivered a special surprise to one of DSV's biggest little fans, just in time for Christmas.
Through a Teams chat, the family shared why Oliver was so passionate about aeroplanes, drones and DSV's facility. The excitement built when Oliver was shown an animated video of a drone lifting a parcel in a South African warehouse - addressed to Texas, USA. And then, Claudia then suggested that Oliver go to the front door to see what was happening outside, and to his surprise a DSV agent was waiting there with his gift in hand - a DSV drone!
Claudia said the story captured so much of what DSV stood for - delivering goods of course, but more than that, making dreams come true. "At DSV we believe that every dream has the potential to shape the future, and by helping deliver those dreams we encourage people to build a brighter world for future generations."
