This ensures your valuable cargo is stable and at the required temperature.
Risk assessment

Risk assessment

Every link in the cold chain represents the potential for problems. We understand the need for full control throughout the journey and assess risk and risk mitigation for all transport lanes for a smoother, more secure process.
End-to-end control

End-to-end control

With our own warehouses and air charter network, as well as an extensive network of ocean and road transport providers, and DSV Cold, a cold chain handling facility airside at OR Tambo International Airport, we have full control of cold chain logistics – from origin to destination.

Five temperature zones

Secure storage and transport at all temperatures

Reducing risk at every stage

Our cold chain logistics solutions are managed using the online platform Validaide. This is one of the industry’s most sophisticated subcontractor management and lane assessment programs. It aggregates data from over 2,500 trade lanes to simplify the process of qualifying suppliers and make risk identification more efficient.

Real-time monitoring and reporting

All cold chain vehicles have real time temperature monitoring throughout its journey, DSV monitors the exact status of your consignment and clients are notified of any out of specification readings. With this control and security in place, you can have full confidence in our cold chain logistics services and the temperature integrity of your valuable pharmaceutical consignments.

DSV Cold, a specialised cold chain transit hub in Johannesburg, South Africa

DSV Cold is our world class, GDP compliant airside handling facility at OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg.  DSV Cold is used exclusively for your pharmaceutical and healthcare products, and offers a secure, door-to-door service with global visibility which meets the highest standards of in-transit handling and temperature-controlled storage in one of three chambers -2-8 degrees, 15-25 degrees and -15 to -25 degrees.

DSV Cold has three critical features essential to successfully protecting the integrity of medicines - keeping product at the right temperature, keeping them safe, and complying with global and local standards.

Temperature controlled logistics

From origin to destination, is essential to the efficacy and safety of medicines. DSV Cold’s innovative polar cabin at OR Tambo International Airport mitigates exposure to tarmac temperature fluctuations and helps reduce visibility to prying eyes while cargo moves to the onsite DSV Cold facility with its three different temperature-controlled chambers, before the onward journey in temperature-controlled vehicles to the destination.

See how DSV moves Temperature sensitive cargo:

DSV Cold focuses on security risk mitigation, a non-negotiable if you are moving high value, temperature-sensitive cargo around the world. Risk mitigation at each point of vulnerability is key to the success of DSV Cold, from the polar cabin to control at the DSV Cold facility with its multi layered access control (biometrics, on-site guards, cameras monitoring the facility). Confidentiality is paramount and clients are not allowed onto the premises and third-party engagement is limited.

Compliance is the third of the critical ingredients, and it transcends the entire end to end cold chain process. There is compliance with World Health Organisation guidelines and various standards such as GDP and ISO, coupled with quality risk management and using software like Validaid (which evaluates lane risks). And Healthcare QMS, a DSV framework that defines the minimum rules and framework for temperature-controlled logistics, means we can map, monitor, and document the temperature at these facilities as well as our vehicles.
