The project involved transporting a thickener package from Lianyungang, China to Djibouti, with onward transit to Ethiopia. The cargo consisted of 39 breakbulk packages, weighing a total of 237,363 kg and covering 2,162 cbm, including the heaviest piece at just 67 tons. Loading conditions at the port were extremely challenging, with soaring afternoon temperatures reaching in the upper 30C and heavy rainfall halting vessel operations almost every day.
DSV ensured all cargo was safely handled, loaded, and securely lashed. Despite the extreme weather and operational difficulties at the port of loading, the team successfully delivered the cargo to the port of discharge within the customer's expected arrival dates and budget. Key to success was continuous communication with the customer, allowing them to adjust planning in real time and proactive negotiations with stakeholders to avoid additional port storage or vessel detention costs.
