Transport Operator – European Part & Full Load
DSV Road Ltd, Purfleet are looking for a Transport Operator within the European Part & Full Load department.
The Transport Operator will have responsibilities involving and including all aspects related to the arrangement of transport for European Part Load and European full load transports to and from the UK. The person we are looking for must be self-driven, results-oriented with a positive outlook and a clear focus on high job quality as well as profit making.
The successful candidate, who will be reporting to the Operations Supervisor, should have good financial awareness, organised and punctual, good knowledge of the road freight industry and prior experience in international trailer planning.
We are looking for a person who can add extra quality to our already highly skilled planning team and be able come up with alternative solutions to challenges and problems whilst at the same time work under pressure.
Flexibility and versatility in working capacity will be required, the candidate will predominantly be utilizing international trailer planning experience and skills. They will also be required to have working knowledge of and capability to be involved with order management, transport finance, transport administration and customer services.
Main purpose of Job:
The main purpose of the job is to plan European Part Load Transports and European Full Load Transports at the request of and to the requirement the DSV UK Ltd client base. Planning and operations must be completed to satisfactory internal and external KPI requirements, relating to, but not limited to; Delivery timeline(s), transport requirements, international laws & governance, and financial targets.
Key Tasks
- Export trailer planning of part load and full loads.
- Import trailer planning of part load and full loads.
- Resolution of transport issues, to ensure timely and cost-effective deliveries.
- Manage and improve supplier transport productivity by means of accurate planning, smart decision making and prompt issue resolution.
- Combining part loads to ensure the service level expected by customers are met, whilst ensuring the transports arranged are cost effective.
- Instructing and coordinating transport customs paperwork and procedures.
- Dealing with customs issues which may arise, with our internal customs department and external customers/suppliers.
- Haulage sourcing, rate negotiating and assessing any subcontractors ensuring they are approved and fulfil any legal requirements.
- Communicating with drivers and hauliers.
- Ensure legislative compliance in all areas.
- Ensure that the company operates within all agreed operational procedures, and within statutory requirements including the provision and maintenance of a safe working environment.
- Arrange with approved hauliers for transport of cargo, confirm availability of equipment and agree prices where no tariff exists, to maximise cost effectiveness.
- Perform and correctly finalize General Administration, e.g. check costs in accordance with departmental requirements, create CMRs, approve supplier costs, etc).
- Promote and maintain relationship with internal and external Partners, suppliers and clients to ensure a continual development of service and service levels.
- Calculate prices and internally quote movements based on and accounting for transport requirements.
Experience, Skills & Qualifications
- 1+ years’ experience in a European Freight Forwarding Operations.
- Preferably direct experience in European Part and Full Load Planning Operations.
- High proficiency in Profit and loss finance management.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Passionate about delivering high quality customer service.
- Hard working, punctual, and conscientious.
- Good IT skills, in particular Microsoft Office Suite, Transport TMS systems.
- Familiarity with basic Road Transport Planning fundamentals and terminologies (e.g. CBM, LDM, market rates, etc).
- Strong decision-making skills.
- Highly motivated with a positive attitude.
- Good organisational skills, with an ability to plan and manage own time.
- At least a basic Import & Export Customs knowledge is preferable.
