Summary
At DSV Road, the Intern, Freight Operations gains hands-on experience supporting the day-to-day execution of domestic transportation operations. This internship provides exposure to customer freight operations, carrier procurement, transportation brokerage, and supply chain execution while developing a foundational understanding of how freight moves from pickup through final delivery.
Working alongside experienced Operations Account Managers and Carrier Sales Representatives, the intern assists with shipment tracking, carrier communication, customer service, freight documentation, reporting, and operational support. Through coaching, mentorship, and real-world experience, the intern develops the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue a career in transportation, logistics, or supply chain management.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with monitoring freight shipments from pickup through final delivery to help ensure timely execution and customer satisfaction.
- Support daily transportation operations by coordinating with customers, carriers, and internal operations teams.
- Track shipment status and communicate updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Assist with sourcing qualified carriers for available freight and obtaining transportation rates.
- Support the preparation of customer quotes, carrier rate confirmations, and transportation documentation under the guidance of experienced team members.
- Maintain accurate shipment information within the Transportation Management System (TMS) and other operational systems.
- Verify shipment documentation, including Bills of Lading, Proofs of Delivery, rate confirmations, and other transportation records.
- Assist with carrier onboarding activities by verifying insurance certificates, operating authority, and other compliance documentation.
- Help identify and escalate shipment delays, service failures, and other transportation exceptions.
- Support resolution of routine shipment issues while learning effective problem-solving and customer service techniques.
- Assist with scheduling pickups, deliveries, and appointments with customers and carriers.
- Maintain accurate operational reports, shipment metrics, and performance dashboards.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to improve operational efficiency and customer service.
- Develop a working knowledge of transportation brokerage, carrier management, freight pricing, and logistics operations.
- Build professional relationships with customers, carriers, and internal business partners while delivering exceptional customer service.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and professional development opportunities.
- Complete special projects and other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
- Currently pursuing an Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Sophomore, junior, or senior standing preferred.
- Previous customer service, administrative, operations, or internship experience is preferred but not required.
- Strong interest in transportation, logistics, brokerage, or supply chain management.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to learn new technology platforms and business systems quickly.

For this position, the base pay is $20.00 Hourly. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
