Summary
The Manager, HazMat Compliance is responsible for leading the hazardous materials safety and regulatory compliance program for DSV Road Transport operations across the United States. This role ensures the safe and compliant transportation of hazardous materials in accordance with applicable federal regulations, including those established by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), and Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA).
The Manager, HazMat Compliance develops and oversees companywide hazardous materials compliance programs, policies, and training initiatives that support safe transportation practices and mitigate regulatory risk. This role provides leadership and direction to the HazMat Compliance Specialist while partnering closely with Safety, Operations, and key customer stakeholders to ensure hazardous materials shipments—including lithium batteries and other regulated materials—are handled in accordance with regulatory standards and company procedures.

Duties & Responsibilities
Lead and manage the company’s hazardous materials compliance program to ensure adherence to federal regulations including Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR), FMCSA safety regulations, and PHMSA requirements.
Provide leadership and oversight to the HazMat Compliance Specialist, including assigning work, setting priorities, providing coaching, and supporting professional development.
Develop, implement, and maintain hazardous materials policies, procedures, and internal guidance that support safe transportation practices and regulatory compliance.
Monitor regulatory developments related to hazardous materials transportation and ensure internal programs, policies, and operational procedures are updated accordingly.
Partner with operations leadership and safety teams to ensure hazardous materials shipments are transported in accordance with applicable regulatory requirements, including proper classification, labeling, placarding, marking, and documentation.
Provide subject matter expertise and operational guidance related to the safe handling and transportation of hazardous materials, including lithium batteries and other regulated freight classes.
Develop and oversee hazardous materials training programs for drivers, operations personnel, and other relevant employees in accordance with regulatory training requirements outlined in 49 CFR §172 Subpart H.
Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of required training records, certifications, and compliance documentation.
Conduct or oversee internal compliance audits and operational reviews to assess adherence to hazardous materials regulations and company policies.
Investigate hazardous materials incidents, compliance concerns, or regulatory violations and implement corrective action plans to mitigate risk and prevent recurrence.
Support major customer accounts involving hazardous materials transportation by reviewing shipping practices and ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and contractual obligations.
Collaborate with customer compliance teams and internal stakeholders to identify and mitigate regulatory risks associated with hazardous materials shipments.
Work closely with Safety leadership to develop risk mitigation strategies, driver awareness programs, and safety initiatives that strengthen the company’s hazardous materials compliance posture.
Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
Education & Experience
High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Transportation, Safety, Logistics, Environmental Health & Safety, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience in transportation safety, hazardous materials compliance, regulatory compliance, or a related logistics function.
Demonstrated knowledge of Hazardous Materials Regulations (49 CFR), FMCSA safety regulations, and related DOT regulatory requirements.
Experience working within transportation, trucking, logistics, or supply chain operations.
Experience conducting regulatory audits, incident investigations, and compliance program development.
Prior experience supervising or mentoring compliance, safety, or regulatory personnel preferred.
Experience supporting the transportation of lithium batteries or other regulated hazardous materials is preferred
Skills & Competencies

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this role. This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods while performing desk-based compliance, documentation, and administrative work, as well as the ability to stand, walk, and move throughout warehouse facilities, truck yards, and operational areas during audits, inspections, and incident investigations. The role may require occasional lifting of materials, binders, or equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, as well as bending, stooping, or kneeling when reviewing freight, placarding, or vehicle documentation in the field. The incumbent must have sufficient visual acuity and manual dexterity to review shipping documents, labels, and markings on hazardous materials packaging. Travel to field locations, customer sites, and company terminals may be required on a regular basis.
Work Environment
This position operates across a variety of work environments, including a standard office setting, active truck yards, and warehouse or freight handling facilities. While performing duties in operational areas, the incumbent may be exposed to varying weather conditions, loud noise, diesel fumes, vehicle traffic, and the presence of hazardous materials in transport. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) may be required when entering certain operational areas, and the incumbent is expected to adhere to all applicable safety protocols and site-specific procedures at all times. This role may require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call availability to respond to hazardous materials incidents or time-sensitive compliance matters.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $92K - 105K annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including relevant experience, skills, education or certifications, and geographic location, consistent with applicable laws and company policy.
