Summary

The Senior Logistics Coordinator, Dispatch is responsible for coordinating complex transportation activities to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient movement of freight while delivering exceptional customer service. This role manages high-priority and specialized shipments, independently resolves complex transportation issues, and serves as a key operational liaison between customers, company drivers, contractors, partner carriers, and internal stakeholders. The position requires advanced transportation knowledge, sound decision-making skills, and the ability to balance customer expectations with operational requirements in a fast-paced environment.

 

Duties & Responsibilities

Transportation Coordination & Account Management

  • Coordinate complex daily dispatch activities for company drivers, contractors, and partner carriers.
  • Independently manage assigned customer accounts and transportation activities to ensure customer expectations and operational requirements are achieved.
  • Evaluate transportation requirements and determine appropriate services, equipment, and transportation resources within established operational guidelines.
  • Manage high-priority, time-sensitive, and specialized freight movements while balancing customer requirements and operational constraints.
  • Schedule and communicate pickup and delivery expectations with drivers, operations teams, customers, and transportation partners.
  • Monitor shipment activity and proactively address service disruptions to minimize operational and customer impact.
  • Track customer orders from initiation through final delivery to ensure timely execution and customer satisfaction.

 

Driver, Carrier, and Customer Support

  • Serve as the primary operational contact for assigned customers, company drivers, contractors, and partner carriers.
  • Build and maintain positive business relationships through consistent, professional communication and responsive customer service.
  • Independently resolve complex transportation issues involving service failures, delays, equipment availability, scheduling conflicts, and customer escalations.
  • Coordinate service recovery efforts and communicate operational updates to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with external transportation partners and agents to support customer and operational requirements throughout the United States.
  • Support customer onboarding and operational implementation activities as assigned.

 

Operational Support & Process Coordination

  • Utilize transportation management systems, dispatch software, and other business applications to support transportation operations.
  • Maintain accurate shipment records, operational documentation, and system updates across multiple platforms.
  • Coordinate with operations, billing, and other internal departments to ensure customer orders are complete, accurate, and properly executed.
  • Analyze transportation activity and identify operational trends, service concerns, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Recommend practical process improvements that enhance operational efficiency and customer service.
  • Participate in operational initiatives and special projects designed to improve transportation performance.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert by supporting the onboarding and training of new dispatch team members, sharing operational knowledge, and providing guidance to promote consistent service and best practices across the dispatch team.

 

Compliance

  • Monitor transportation activities to support compliance with DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, company policies, and customer expectations.
  • Maintain required transportation documentation and operational records.
  • Assist with internal audits and compliance activities as needed.
  • Communicate compliance concerns and operational risks to leadership as appropriate.
  • Escalate operational issues requiring management involvement when appropriate.

 

General Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support transportation and customer service objectives.
  • Promote the DSV Road Transport brand through professional interactions and service excellence.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

 

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management, or a related field preferred.
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of progressive experience in truck dispatch, transportation operations, or logistics coordination required, including prior experience dispatching company drivers and/or third-party carriers required
  • Experience coordinating complex freight movements, including time-sensitive, specialized, or high-value shipments preferred.
  • Experience managing customer relationships and resolving complex transportation and service issues.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations, Hours of Service requirements, and transportation compliance.
  • Experience utilizing transportation management systems (TMS), dispatch software, and operational reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently manage multiple priorities and make sound operational decisions within established guidelines.

 

Skills & Competencies

  • Advanced knowledge of truck dispatch and transportation operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong English language skills, including reading, writing, and verbal communication; Spanish is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, drivers, contractors, carriers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and transportation management systems.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to independently resolve complex operational issues while recognizing when escalation is appropriate.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in a dynamic operational environment.
  • Customer-focused, self-motivated, results-oriented, and committed to continuous improvement and service excellence.

 

Physical Demands

This position is primarily sedentary and requires prolonged periods of sitting while working at a computer workstation. Frequent use of hands and fingers for typing and operating office equipment is required. The employee must effectively communicate with customers, drivers, contractors, carriers, and team members through telephone, electronic, and in-person communication. Occasional standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting of light office materials may be required. Close visual acuity is necessary for reviewing operational data and documentation.

 

Work Environment

This position operates in a combination of office, dispatch center, terminal, and transportation operations environments. This role requires frequent interaction with customers, drivers, contractors, partner carriers, and internal stakeholders in a fast-paced, deadline-driven setting. Moderate noise levels associated with transportation operations, telephones, radios, and general business activities are common. Occasional presence in terminal or yard environments may be required and may involve exposure to varying weather conditions. Flexibility to support operational needs, including non-standard business hours, may be required based on business demands.

For this position, the expected base pay range is $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 Annual. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.
