SUMMARY

The DSV Supervisor, Dispatch is a key role for the DSV Road Transport branches.  They are responsible for leading the daily operations of dispatch and driver management within the company’s fleet. This role ensures the safe, efficient, and compliant movement of freight while maximizing driver productivity and customer satisfaction. The supervisor will manage a team of dispatchers and work closely with drivers, safety, customer service, and maintenance teams to resolve issues and improve performance.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Acts as a back-up in the absence of the Branch Manager, or other branch employees, with day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Ensures the team’s daily activities and responsibilities are completed successfully and timely.
  • Lead, coach, and schedule a team of dispatchers to ensure freight is assigned, tracked, and delivered efficiently.
  • Supervise daily trucking operations, including local, regional, and OTR assignments.
  • Monitor and optimize driver utilization, hours of service (HOS), equipment availability, and route planning.
  • Communicate with customers, brokers, and internal departments to ensure on-time pickups and deliveries.
  • Support driver performance management, including attendance, productivity, safety compliance, and issue resolution.
  • Track and analyze dispatch metrics (on-time %, deadhead, dwell time, utilization) and report trends to leadership.
  • Coordinate with safety and compliance teams to ensure adherence to DOT regulations and internal policies.
  • Provide on-call support or coverage during evenings or weekends as needed to maintain operational continuity.
  • Participate in recruitment, training, and development of new dispatchers or driver support personnel.
  • Lead daily dispatch huddles and provide regular updates to drivers and team members.
  • Runs monthly reports to catch all booked shipments.
  • Works closely with the DSV Road Management to establish KPI’s measuring productivity, and manages team daily reports.
  • Works closely with the DSV Sales team to identify new and existing opportunities for growth, and client relationship enhancements.
  • Works with other department leads and/or mangers to achieve successful and positive partnerships and efficiencies.
  • Assists accounting and operations staff in resolving settlement disputes with carriers.
  • Performs and completes other duties or projects as assigned.
  • Leads by example; motivates and supports co-workers, integrates, and promotes the DSV strategy into daily actions and interactions.

 

SUPERVISORY DUTIES

  • Oversees the branch’s drivers and dispatch team members.
  • Reviews and approves weekly timesheets and time off requests for Drivers / dispatchers.
  • Delegates and distributes workloads and/or duties as appropriate.
  • Assess performance, conducts performance reviews, and suggests disciplinary action as needed and in coordination with the DSV Road Management.
  • Assesses staffing needs, conducts interviews and assists with hiring decisions in coordination with the DSV Road Management.
  • Maintains a positive work atmosphere and leads by example.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies, rules and regulations.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES)      

 

Education and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3 years’ experience with transportation operations or related experience.
  • 2 years’ trucking, dispatch, or fleet management experience.
  • 2 years’ experience managing teams
  • Strong knowledge of DOT, FMCSA, and HOS regulations.
  • Experience with TMS, ELDs, and Load tracking tools.

 

Computer Skills

  • PC literacy is necessary
  • Basic computer skills including Microsoft office proficient

 

Language Skills

  • English (reading, writing, verbal)

 

Mathematical Skills

  • Advanced mathematical skills for project development.

 

Other Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to compose routine to moderately complex letters, and to edit and proof business correspondences and reports.
  • Able to present information to all levels of the organization, with the ability to function within a group dynamic.
  • Strong ability to problem solve in a fast paced environment.
  • Ability to balance multiple duties at once and possess a high attention to detail.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES)

  • 5 years’ of experience with an operations group or similar experience.
  • 5 years’ freight brokerage experience.
  • 3 years’ experience managing teams
  • College degree in Logistics and Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a similar field.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee uses his/her hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, or crouch; talk or hear.  The employee uses computer and telephone equipment.  Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision and distance vision. Ability to travel by land, air, sea as needed.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee rarely is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. The job is performed in an office environment

For this position, the expected base pay is: $51,500.00  - $69,500.00 / Annual.  Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, geographical location, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations.
