Air Cargo News’ choice for Freight Forwarder of the Year

At the 2016 Cargo Airline of the Year awards: On Saturday 23 April, at the prize-giving ceremony in the Lancaster London Hotel , DSV was presented with the prestigious Freight Forwarder of the Year Award.

“We are extremely pleased and honoured to receive this global award. Our freight forwarders work hard and long hours all over the world to find the best possible solution for our customers. This is a recognition of our company and business, our ability to grow in a tough market, but also of the people who carry out our services. The staff at DSV are the ones who think fast and make the decisions to allow us to deliver on our promises every day. This is even more motivation to keep up the good work and continue to strive for excellence”. – Carsten Trolle, CEO DSV Air & Sea

Michael D. Hansen, MD Air & Sea UK, attended the event with his wife and received the award on behalf of DSV Air & Sea:

“What a thrill and joy it is to be up there on stage receiving an award on behalf of DSV. Our teams have worked very hard to do their very best, and it’s a great thing when it pays off and there’s a room full of industry executives applauding you. It makes us want to do even better”.

The editor’s choice/factors behind the award

Air Cargo News cites the following reason for choosing DSV for Freight Forwarder of the Year:

“Denmark-based DSV’s $1.35bn takeover of US forwarder UTi has pushed the Danish logistics giant into the premier league of the world’s top ten airfreight forwarders. The strategic deal, part of a continuing consolidation process in the global freight forwarding sector, will see DSV handle combined airfreight volumes in excess of 600,000 tonnes annually. Last year, the forwarder recorded airfreight demand growth of 8% while the overall industry saw volumes decline by around 1%.

With this one acquisition, DSV positioned itself as a major player in the airfreight market, moving up from a top 20 place. It also made a clear statement about its ambitions in air cargo, building upon the strengths of UTi. The move also expands DSV’s reach globally, providing the forwarder with a more balanced footprint.

UTi has proven responsive to customer needs and, as an example, opened multimodal hubs in Malaysia and Vietnam in late 2015 to overcome reduced air cargo capacity by using short haul flights and road feeder services. New facilities in Kuala Lumpur and Ho Chi Minh City will ‘tackle the challenges of static air cargo capacity’ and thereby service its worldwide gateways in Europe and the US”.
