Summary
The Sr. Team Lead, Freight Operations plays a critical support role in the day to day execution of freight brokerage activities. This individual oversees a small team of brokers and coordinates operational processes to ensure timely, cost-effective, and customer compliant shipment execution. They act as a liaison between operations and leadership, help maintain strong carrier and customer relationships, and promote a high-performance, service-focused team environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee the movement of shipments to ensure they are executed on time, within budget, and in alignment with customer requirements.
- Assist in load planning, carrier selection, and troubleshooting service issues.
- Handle escalations, track service failures, and implement corrective actions in coordination with the Operations Manager.
- Monitor and ensure proper documentation including BOLs, carrier packets, and system data entry.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with carrier partners and customers.
- Negotiate rates with carriers and provide spot/volume quotes for customer shipments.
- Resolve issues related to delays, damages, service discrepancies, and claims handling in collaboration with the broader team.
- Monitor key performance indicators such as on time delivery, margin performance, and unpaid carrier invoices.
- Assist in development of operational reports to the Branch Manager.
- Participate in initiatives to grow brokerage revenue and optimize profit margins.
- Recommend process improvements and contribute to continuous improvement projects.
- Support the implementation and early-stage operational setup of new customer accounts, ensuring seamless onboarding, process alignment, and service readiness across internal teams and external partners.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Senior Team Lead will be responsible for overseeing the work of the team, which may include supervising team members and coordinating with other departments and teams.
- Conduct training and ongoing coaching to enhance team skillsets and performance.
- Foster a positive, customer-centric, results-driven team culture.
- Support onboarding of new brokers and cross-train staff as needed.
Educational background / Work experience
- Bachelor's degree in business, logistics, supply chain management, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
- At least 3 years of experience in freight brokerage or transportation operations.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or leadership role is preferred.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certification in logistics or supply chain management is preferred.
- Prior experience working with carriers, brokers, and transportation providers is a plus.
- Experience with industry specific software.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively with team members, customers, and partners.
- Ability to analyze data and make informed decisions based on that data.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Language skills
- Fluent in English (oral and written)
Computer Literacy
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, is required.
- Experience with industry-specific software is a plus

At Will Employment
For this position, the expected base pay is: $70,000-$75,000/ Annual. Actual base compensation will be determined based on various factors including job-related knowledge, skills, experience, geographic location and other objective business considerations.
