Autonomous drone flying under the roof in a warehouse for inventory count

Inventory management with DSV drones

Fly into a new era of warehousing

Introducing drones to manage your inventory in DSV warehouses is a gamechanger for your operations. Not only do our automated drones save you manpower and time in checking inventory, but as they can fly at night and at the weekends, you can also reduce your warehouse downtime.

Fewer errors, better control

At selected DSV warehouses, you can now use drones to significantly improve the data accuracy of your inventory count. During a count, the drones fly to inventory locations to scan the visible barcodes from floor level to the highest rack to count the assigned inventory items. They can even scan damaged and hard-to-read barcodes and identify empty locations.

All data from each inventory scan is updated directly to the dashboard when the drone returns to the charging station. This gives you immediate access to the inventory status and significantly reduces the risk of human error.

Key components of DSV drone technology

  • Mission control station

The control station sends the assignment to the drone fleet.

  • Autonomous drone fleet

The drone fleet requires no human intervention to take-off, fly and collect data. Once the mission is complete, they return to the charging stations to upload data and recharge.

  • Charging stations

These can be placed anywhere in the facility to provide autonomous charging and drone data-download capabilities.

  • Cloud-based dashboard

When the drones return to the charging station, the images are uploaded and data can be accessed on the dashboard.

  • Easy deployment

No wiring infrastructure or Wi-Fi connection is required for the drone fleet to fly and navigate through the facility.

Save energy and manpower

With drones handling your inventory management in our warehouses, you can save on staff and downtime. The drones can scan between 100 and 300 locations per hourand can also work at the weekends and at night so you can keep the warehouse running during the day.

Why invest in DSV warehousing with drone technology?

  • Prevent theft

Automated inventory checks show discrepancies in real time, making theft more visible.

  • Save energy

Drones operate in complete darkness and at colder temperatures than the human labour force. This lets you save on the operating costs of your facility.

  • Reduce emissions

By using drones, you can reduce the need to operate machinery to manually scan pallets at height. This leads to significant reductions in electrical consumption, emissions and maintenance.

  • Reduce overstocks

By improving the accuracy of your warehouse, you can reduce the need for overstocks and excess inventory to “cover” errors.

  • Happier customers

Increased productivity and inventory accuracy give more consistent product availability for improved service and customer retention.
